On the occasion of Croatian Migraine Day, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Matija Sošić, MD, neurology specialist, held an invited expert lecture at the Thalasso Wellness Center Opatija on the topic of migraine without headache - a rare and often under-recognized clinical phenomenon.
The lecture was focused on the forms of migraine in which the typical headache is absent, while the disease manifests itself with other symptoms, such as abdominal discomfort, eye disorders or episodes of dizziness (vertiginous disorders). Such atypical presentations of migraine represent a significant diagnostic challenge because patients often do not associate the listed symptoms with migraine, which can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment.
Migraine affects approximately 15% of the general population, and it is estimated that as many as half of those affected are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Continuous education of healthcare professionals and the public is therefore crucial for timely recognition of the disease and the application of appropriate therapy.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Matija Sošić, MD, a neurology specialist, runs the first headache clinic in the Istrian County, specializing in the diagnostics and modern treatment of primary and secondary headaches.
The aim of the lecture was to increase awareness of migraine as a complex neurological disorder that does not always involve headache, and to improve the recognition of atypical forms of the disease in everyday clinical practice.
