In the headache clinic of our hospital, there are a large number of patients who suffer from perennial headaches that last 15 or more days a month, which are caused by excessive use of headache medications.
Excessive and uncontrolled use of medications for migraine or tension headaches causes changes in parts of the brain that affect memory centers, impulsivity, and behavior, leading to exhaustion, anxiety, and depression along with monthly and multi-year headaches.
A neurologist will speak today as an invited speaker in Zagreb about this paradox, the experiences of Istrian neurology, and raising awareness about one of the 150 different types of headaches. assistant professorMatija Sošić, MD at the Seventh National Congress for Headaches and Pain with International Participation.
"The brain is the most complicated human organ, and the wide spectrum of diseases for the same symptom is the reason why it is necessary to devote a lot of time to the interview, neurological examination, and medications and all the interactions between them. Headaches are particularly challenging because these are patients who suffer a lot, are stigmatized, and all their findings are often normal," said Assoc. Prof. Sošić.
