By illuminating the hospital building with purple light on February 10th, the Special Hospital for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation "Martin Horvat" Rovinj-Rovigno joins in marking International Epilepsy Day and National Epilepsy Day.
On February 10, the Special Hospital for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation "Martin Horvat" joins the campaign "Let's turn on the lights for epilepsy!", which, on the occasion of International Epilepsy Day and National Epilepsy Day, illuminates famous landmarks and buildings in purple, in order to enlighten the public about all aspects of this disease and highlighted the problems faced by people with epilepsy, their families and caregivers.
World Epilepsy Day is celebrated in more than 140 countries. Every year, on the second Monday in February, epilepsy awareness is promoted around the world. Epilepsy is the most common chronic neurological disease with a prevalence of about 1 percent, which means that around 50 million people of all ages worldwide have epilepsy, with an increased incidence in children and the elderly. Around six million people in Europe and around 40,000 people in Croatia suffer from epilepsy. The risk of premature death in people with epilepsy is three times higher than in the general population.
Epilepsy is a chronic disease that can be effectively controlled today, and over 70 percent of people with epilepsy can live seizure-free if they have access to appropriate treatment.
